In a few short days, United Rock will hear the pitter-patter of little feet at our Irwindale, California facility. URP is thrilled to host Pearl Prep Elementary School for the second time. On January 20, 2012, 2nd and 3rd grade students will spend the morning touring the property, while learning about what United Rock Products is and how we function.

From the outside, most may not think twice about the piles of rock and heavy machinery that dominate the landscape where California's 605 and 210 freeways converge. United Rock is so much MORE than our outward appearance. Students will get a behind-the-scenes and below-the-surface view of the processes and people that make United Rock Products the award winning company it is!

First on the agenda is lunch. The 7 to 9 year olds are going to cover much of URP's 300 acre property. Full bellies are essential for mental focus and a lot of walking.  The process of mining sand and gravel as well as its use will be explained in simple terms. We plan on showing our young guests the inner workings of the plant, our under road conveyors, the massive Caterpillar loaders used to move tons of gravel and MUCH more.

The tour will also include information on URP's dedication to air pollution reduction, water recycling and many other sustainable business practices. These subjects are essential to share with students at this impressionable age. Greater awareness today will encourage more responsible adults tomorrow.

United Rock Products believes improving education strengthens our community.  We welcome any schools or organizations to schedule an outing at our Irwindale plant.

United Rock Products began mining aggregates in 1916. Our 300-acre site is located in Irwindale, California - just 25 miles east of Los Angeles. Virgin aggregate material is processed into sand and gravel through cutting-edge crushing and screening operations. Whether making custom blends or creating new products, we have the knowledge and commitment to meet even the most specialized customer needs.
