Safety is woven into the fabric of URP's workplace. No person, nor machine, nor process is permitted to function without 100% implementation of the proper safety precautions. This dedication combined with a newly integrated holistic approach has reaped impressive results worthy of recognition.

United Rock Products is proud to announce that CalCIMA (California Construction and Industrial Materials Association) has acknowledged URP as a leader in the arena of safety in the category of "Large Aggregate Producer".

CalCIMA is a major source of information on aggregates, industrial minerals, and ready-mixed concrete,

Members of CalCIM are local businesses who provide the materials to meet California's construction and manufacturing needs. CalCIMA acts on behalf of the industry as a whole, communicating industry legislative, regulatory, and environmental issues. They also provide members with safety, technical, environmental compliance and communications training. CalCIMA members have firsthand knowledge and experience in the magnitude of safety, making this award even more meaningful.

In 2011, URP implemented the "Toyota Production System" way of thinking. The system builds trust, creativity and respect within the group, as well as fosters leadership in each employee. An environment of trust and ownership is cultivated through assigned reading, later discussed in bond-building study groups that include upper management.

Another practice has employees working at all areas of the plant. If there is a break down, employees are empowered to assist with repairs and provide input to help prevent future problems. This exercise has improved safety because employees now have greater knowledge and empathy of what their co-workers do and why.

Russ Caruso, United Rock Products VP and General Manager said of the award, "We won the award for safety for a large aggregate producer. This award is judged and given by CalCIMA, who are our peers in the industry. The criterion is not only outstanding safety, but innovation with regards to safety."

2012 looks bright for United Rock Products. We are putting our best foot forward, leading (as always) with the motto, "Safety First".
